Hoboken

Hoboken is its own city, 1.25 square miles of land directly north of Downtown Jersey City, with 60,419 residents at the 2020 census. Washington Street, which the town calls the avenue, is the main commercial street. Hoboken Terminal, opened in 1907 and on the National Register since 1973, carries NJ Transit commuter rail, PATH, two of the three light rail routes, NY Waterway ferries and buses. Inside Hoboken the light rail also stops at 2nd Street and 9th Street-Congress Street. PATH trains from the terminal run to the World Trade Center and to 33rd Street.

Housing: masonry row houses of three to five stories from the early 19th century, brownstones from the turn of the 20th, and former industrial sites redeveloped as mid-rise condominiums. The Hudson River Waterfront Walkway runs along the river past Pier A Park and Frank Sinatra Park. Pier A Park was built on the foundation of the old pier of that name, and Frank Sinatra Park is next to it. Stevens Institute of Technology, founded 1870 on Castle Point, is one of the oldest technological universities in the country.
